Engine mounting kit for Discovery 2 Td5 to BMW M57N/M57N2 6/8 speed automatic

This kit allows you to bolt the BMW engines 306D2 306D3/5 into Land Rover Discovery TD5 using the existing Td5 gearbox mountings on the chassis for the engine and gearbox so no cutting or welding is required to the chassis. See note’s below for engine fitment and details about the swap that need to be understood. Although this is a bolt in mount kit there are lots of other things to be aware of that may need modifying for the engine to fit and have clearance around other items such as the steering box and sump.

Kit consists of following: –

  • 2 x Engine mounting brackets
  • 2 x Engine mounting rubbers
  • 2 x Chassis brackets to bolt on to Td5 original engine mounts
  • 1 x LHS 6/8hp LT230 mounting bracket
  • 1 x Bolt kit

Notes –

  • Kit uses original Td5 gearbox mounting brackets on the chassis so prop shaft lengths stay the same, you re-use the original Td5 gearbox mounting rubbers and the mounting bracket on the Lt230, the original Td5 one. (These are not supplied in the kit as you can re-use the Td5 ones)
  • Engine options- we feel the best M57 engine variations to use are the M57N / ZF 6 speed automatic. Turbo clearance should be good on the steering box. If you plan to use the later M57N2 engines then the turbo actuator will need re-locating to miss the steering box or use and X3 E83 turbo but you will have to modify the outlet and cut and weld a straight outlet on to gain clearance for the steering box
  • All X-drive donor engines will need the sump modifying or changing to a non-x-drive sump for clearance of the sump on the front axle.
  • A/C pump clearance is also tight for space. We find the best option for lots of space is to use the A/C pump and mounting bracket from an M57 306D1 184bhp, like the Range Rover Td6 engine. This need’s a minor modification of a mounting hole cutting off and it will then bolt straight onto the later M57 engines and give lots of clearance from the steering box
  • There is less space to install these in the engine bay than the Defender models so be prepared to have to do some custom modifications of parts!
